ABOVE: Sydney Show 2018
Hello and welcome to Nioa Pastoral Company’s last newsletter for 2018. The last twelve months have proven to be hard times indeed with the ongoing drought and the challenges associated with it. The Darling Downs as with most areas of QLD suffered badly with no rainfall between early March and late October. For us, this meant no winter or fodder crops planted and a lack of natural pasture. Like many other producers in the country our days were much the same, trying to maintain the condition of our herd by supplement feeding, agistment and making use of the local roads where possible.
On the Stud front we are excited about the future of our breeding herd and the opportunities that 2018 has provided us with. We have been able to expand our herd with some high-quality females from leading Studs such as Rosevale, Gyranda, Yugilbar and Glen Oaks. A big thank you to Peter and Nikki Mahony from Gyranda Stud for your cooperation and support with our IVF program. We know you shuffled your own schedule around to fit in with us and this was much appreciated. Another part of our breeding plan this year is our AI and ET program and we look forward to 2019 and the progeny it brings.
2018 also saw good results in the show ring for us with Nioa Marksman winning Junior and Grand Champion Bull at Sydney Royal Easter Show. We look forward to seeing Marksman’s progeny in the future. From Sydney to Rockhampton and places in between we were never disappointed picking up ribbons along the way. Thank you again to James from Pinedock Fitting Services for your excellent service and Jane for her attention to detail.
From all of us here at NIOA we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Safe travels.
Shannon.
