Santa Gertrudis legend Rob Sinnamon’s strong return to the Ekka show ring has provided a tantalising preview of the line-up awaiting stud stock investors at next month’s NIOA & RL Pastoral Production Sale.
Back at the RNA event in Brisbane for the first time since 2019 and under their own Riverina stud prefix, the Sinnamons’ draft of three bulls and one heifer walked away with four sashes up against a quality competition.
Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 (PP), 20-22 months, was runner-up to senior and grand champion bull Ribbleton Santa Gertrudis stud’s Ekka debutant Ribbleton Steve (P).
Roland Sanchez is the son of globally recognised Red Doc Never Better (USA) and is listed at Lot 9 in the NIOA & RL Pastoral Sale at Talgai Homestead on September 1.
Riverina Sweet Senorita S003 (P) – for sale as Lot 53 in the NIOA-RL catalogue – was runner-up in her class (female 12-14 months), Lot 11, Riverina Relegator R046 (PP), came away with third in the 22-24 months bull class while the judges awarded Roland Sanchez and Relegator first for a pair of bulls.
Described as a “superb sire prospect”, Relegator is sired by Cardona Nogoa and from a Bullamakinka female.
NIOA & RL Pastoral were also awarded the All Breeds Herdsman Award for best maintained cattle display, capping a successful RNA campaign.
After the Ekka’s two-year COVID-induced hiatus, Mr Sinnamon said the Riverina team was delighted to be back ringside where his family have been regulars since the 1970s.
“Recent years have seen the industry exposed to all the elements, high and low; along with unprecedented times globally, with society in general learning to live with the COVID pandemic,” he said.
“I’ve been coming to the Ekka for 50 years and it was just great to be back in the ring and we are very satisfied with our results against some outstanding competition. Congratulations to all the exhibitors.”
NIOA and RL Pastoral have joined forces for the first time to present an impressive catalogue to kick off the September bull-buying season, including 52 bulls (50 classified S), one heifer and three IVF flushes.
Pre-sale inspections will be held at the Sinnamons’ property, “Mayfield”, Kyogle, on August 20 from 10am-3pm while NIOA welcomes inspections by appointment.
Cattle will be on display on sale day at Talgai Homestead from 9am with bidding to start from 2pm.
Elders and Ray White have been appointed on-site auction agents while those unable to attend the sale can make bids online with AuctionsPlus and Elite Livestock.
